We know thatย bar modelling is one of the best strategies to begin solving calculation problems in maths. Throughout the month of November, our friends at White Rose maths are posting a selection of maths challenges that can be solved with the help of a bar model, which I will then add to our blog.
Let’s begin with the challenge below:
Two tickets for the first correct answer with explanation!
๐
the answer is 746 because 236 plus 93 is 329 and 236 minus 55 is 181 329 plus 181 plus 238 is 746
no wait it is 670
The answer is 670 because she sold 236 pies on Tuesday, and 93 less on Monday. Therefore on Monday she sold 143 pies. On Wednesday, she sold 55 more than on Tuesday (291 pies). 236+143+291=670.
The answer is 670 because 236-93=mon. 236+55=wed. 143+236+291=670
Well done for figuring it out.
I the answer is 670 because Monday is 143, Tuesday is 236 and Wednesday is 291 and so, 143+236+291=670
The answer is 670 because 236+55 = 291 which is Wednesday and 236 is Tuesday and then 236-93=143 which is Monday so if you add them all together (236+291+143=670).
Well done guys!
