Three Brothers on a Farm

Three brothers live in a farm. They agreed to buy new seeds: Adam and Ben would go and Charlie stayed to protect fields. Ben bought 75 sacks of wheat in the market whereas Adam bought 45 sacks. At home, they split the sacks equally. Charlie had paid 1400 dollars for the wheat. How much dollars did Ben and Adam get of the sum, considering equal split of the sacks?

  1. Aditya says:

    A (What Adam got) + B (What Ben got) = D (Total dollars)
    S (Total sacks) = 120 D = 1400
    X (What Adam bought) = 62.5% x S = 75
    Y (What Ben bought) = 37.5% x S
    A = 62.5% x D = $875
    B = 37.5% x D = $525
    A = $875
    B = $525

      Iā€™m not sure I understand the question. I thought it meant how much money did Adam and Ben get to spend on the seeds but now Iā€™m not sure.

  3. Ewen :) says:

    75+45=120. There are 120 bags altogether.
    120/3=40. Each brother gets 40 bags.
    1400/ 40= $35. This is the price of one bag.
    Ben bought 75-40=35 bags for Charlie.
    Adam bought 45-40=5 bags for Charlie so each brother has 40 bags.
    Ben got 35(bags for Charlie)x 35(price of one bag)=$1225.
    Adam got 5(bags for Charlie)x35(price of one bag)=$175.

    Check:
    $1225+$175=$1400, which is what Charlie paid.
