In science, we discussed how filters change our perception of an object in terms of colour . This happens because the filter absorbs certain colours of light and lets other colour(s) pass through. An object will only reflect the colour it is into our eyes but it absorbs all the other colours. E.g if you put a red apple under a blue filter, the filter will only let through the blue part of the white light (white light is actually all the colours of the rainbow put together. These colours, when put together are called the colour spectrum). Then, the apple will absorb the blue light but it doesn’t reflect any colour because there is no red light as the blue filter isn’t letting any pass through. And if an object is not reflecting any colour, it will look black.

We learnt how we see light and what colours light absorbs and and what colours it bounces back into are eyes causing us to see green on an apple for instants.

In science, we have been placing coloured filters over different coloured objects.
We have been investigating and predicting what the colours would be.

  4. Catherine says:

In science we have been learning about how filters can deceive our perception about what colour something is. For example, if you put a red filter over a green pear, the pear looks black. This is because the green light ray (electromagnetic radiation) that was being directed towards our eyes is being absorbed by the red filter. Therefore, there are no more light rays bouncing off the pear for us to see, so we see black.

We learnt that when you get an coloured object and put a coloured filterer over it your eyes will see a different colourer.

What happens to a colour when we put a different coloured filter on it? 🙂
