As mentioned in class, Young Writers are holding a poetry competition for 7 to 11 year olds with the theme of “Peculiar Pets”. Writing competitions are always a great way for us to engage creatively with our writing and to generate excitement about our learning. The brief is to write a poem of your choice about a peculiar pet. “Pupils can create animal mash-ups, be inspired by their perfect pet or make their own awesome animal to write their poem about. It’s a great theme for sense, narrative, or riddle poems, acrostics and rhymes as well as showcasing poetic techniques such as imagery and alliteration.”
The closing date for entries is 23rd of October so I will be collecting all entries on or before Friday the 16th. Pupil prizes include goodie bags with books and stationery! All entrants will receive a sticker and bookmark. Please click here for an entry sheet.
GOOD LUCK! 🙂
I really want to get a goodie bag
[I forgot full stop].
Well done for self-correcting Aika!
1 house point! 🙂
To anyone who will enter the competition; try out freestyle poetry. I like freestyle because you get to invent your own rules.
🙂
I’ll try! I’m not really sure if I’m entering yet. 🙁 🙂
This is an ecxample of a freestyle poem for anyone who doesn’t know what freestyle is:
Butterfly.
Elegent features.
And beutiful fluttering wings.
Elegent features.
And delicate spindly legs.
Elegent features.
And mysterios saddening eyes…
It is basicly a poem where you create your own rules.
Question:
is it anyone or any-one?
;/
I’m not sure if I’m going to even enter the competition…
yet!☺
Me and Claribel are doing the competition together our character is called professor raccoon.
Wow!! that’s such a cool idea Zahraa! 🙂 🙂 🙂 😛 😛 😛
I am going to do my poem solo.
Me too.
I might do the compation and the poetry is in my tray
Competition is spelled with an ‘e’.
I have done a four part limerick about a cat called Steven. By four part I mean it is four limericks stuck together.
Remember: the deadline is in 20 days!
